Searching for the perfect sofa? Finding the right sofa can be a challenge since the choices are endless. From leather to suede or linen it can feel like your options are infinite. In fact, you might know exactly what type of sofa you want to purchase for your living room or den but when you walk into a furniture shop or browse the popular online stores your met with all kinds of styles, shapes and customization alternatives. How do you choose the right sofa? Save yourself time and money by using some of these tips.

  1. Think About Size First
When shopping for a sofa you should have in mind what size couch you’ll need. If you have a large living room, you should decide just how much of the living room the couch will be filling up. Will you also be decorating the space with other couches, end tables and a coffee table. If you want to include other furniture pieces a L-shaped sofa is ideal. However, if you desire the sofa to be the focal point of the room than opt for a sofa that is bold and takes up more space.

If you have a small living room than chances are you’ll want a small scaled sofa. Since you’re not working with much room than the sofa will most likely be in the spotlight. Therefore, you should choose something that is practical yet ultra-stylish.

  1. Seating Room
How many people you plan on seating regularly is a factor you will need to consider. If you have a large family, then you’ll benefit from purchasing a sofa that provides adequate seating room such as a sectional sofa.

  2. Upholstery Materials
While aesthetics contribute to the overall design of the room, functionality is key. Choosing something that will stand the test of time is important that is why you have to research the upholstery materials that are used in manufacturing a sofa. For example, white suede sofas are beautiful, but they aren’t practical for homes with children or pets. Be sure to select a sofa that matches your lifestyle.

  3. Bright or Neutral?
Don’t be afraid of a sofa featuring a bold color or a print. Choosing a sofa with unique or playful feature can totally transform your living room. Or you can play things safe by going with a neutral sofa that you can always reupholster in the furniture.

Happy Shopping!
