Six Small Bathroom Solutions

January 24, 2019 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Homeowners will find that small bathrooms are typically found in older homes. If you are an owner of an older house, you may understand the struggle of decorating this tiny space. There may not necessarily be a lot of room, but we believe that there is a lot of potential. Here are some easy tips for decorating your tiny bathroom:

Light Color Scheme

Light colors tend to make a room look bigger. If you decide to paint with a lighter color palette, it can help to open up the space. Also, if you are blessed enough to have a window in your bathroom, the soft colors help to reflect the natural light and in return, brighten up your tiny space.

If you do not know where to start, one of our expert sales associates would love to assist you! We carry a wide selection of high-quality paint from Benjamin Moore. For more information, please call or visit our showroom.

Feature an Accent Wall

The wall that features the sink or toilet on it can be the perfect place to create an accent wall. With an endless amount of options for a bathroom’s accent wall, you can begin to create emphasis and design with your statement wall. You can paint this one wall a bold color, use a fun patterned wallpaper, or incorporate tile for a glamorous, chic look.

Small Amounts of Decor

Try not to overwhelm the walls or countertops with a lot of decorations. The simpler, the better. Limit the number of decorations you use in your bathroom to eliminate clutter. Also, since you have a limited amount of decor, try using different design elements. You can incorporate small plants, decorative mirrors, scented candles, and mini wall textiles to help add character and charm to your mini bathroom.

Make it Trendy

Mirrors are one of the best ways to make a space look bigger, but do not settle for an “average” mirror. Mirrors can define the style of your bathroom; therefore, be sure to purchase a statement mirror to add style and personality. Since the space is small, you can amplify its beauty with dramatic statement pieces.

Look up for Storage

When you have a limited amount of space available on the floor, try adding extra storage anywhere you can find it. The space above the toilet and sink, below your countertops, and on the walls can provide an ample amount of room for extra belongings.

Finish off with Flooring

We firmly believe that flooring can pull an entire space together. The floors you choose for your bathroom can truly transform your small space. Plus, you can even create a beautiful wood look with luxury vinyl or a classic, clean look with geometric tiles. There are endless options available to you, and we look forward to helping you create your dream bathroom. For more information on our flooring selection, you can visit our online showroom or stop by in person. We have an expert sales staff ready to answer any and all of your questions.

Small bathrooms can have big personalities, you do not need to limit your design just because you have a smaller space. Transform your tiny space by incorporating these easy tips and tricks, and you may be pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Thanks for reading!

How to Incorporate Warm Tones into Your Home

January 18, 2019 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Creating an atmosphere can be so much more than just adding furniture and decor into a room.  How a room makes you feel, and the overall ambiance can be highly influenced by colors.  Warm tones and cool tones are different ways to change the perception of how a room feels.  By applying different colors to a space, you can evoke different psychological impacts, thus expressing a specific emotion. Learning how to apply these tones is a powerful tool which you can use to not only enhance your space but completely revamp the entire feel while recreating the mood of your room.

Warm Tones

While cool tones are great for creating a more relaxed ambiance in your home, using warm tones can produce high levels of energy and make a more welcoming environment.  They are also ideal for hosting guests and making your space feel more lively and inviting.  They can be great in large rooms but be wary when applying them in smaller spaces.  We suggest using neutral based walls and incorporating your warm tones as accent colors to make the room feel cozy.

Reds

Using red is a powerful way to influence the mood of your room.  It is a bold color that creates a passionate atmosphere and can draw dramatic attention to specific areas in your space.  It is best affiliated with excitement and energy while stimulating the mind.  This robust color is perfect for spicing up your atmosphere and making a livelier and inviting environment.

Yellows

Try going the creative route by incorporating hues of yellow.  Yellow can be planned in your design but is psychologically referred to as “spontaneous and adventurous.”  This great warm tone can stimulate the mind to feel more awake and lively.  Yellow is known best for helping with happiness and positivity.  Applying this optimistic color can add a ray of sunshine to your design and help capture a warmer toned atmosphere.

Oranges

Orange is a stimulating color that is great for creating more balance and warmth to your home.  It can come in a wide variety of hues and tones from neon orange to rustic copper tones.  This sociable color can help a dull room feel like the life of the party.  It evokes adventure, happiness, as well as just plain fun psychologically.  Using orange is a great way to capture warm tones in your home while having fun.

Whatever colors you decide to use in your home, be sure to find balance.  Warm tones can be powerful, and accents can go a long way.  Do not be afraid to add these hues to a neutrally based room to help give it life.  Learning how to apply these tones can be a great way to help evolve your home’s design.

Do you already use warm and cool tones in your home?  How have you been applying colors to change your home’s atmosphere? We would love to hear your thoughts below in the comment section.

How to Incorporate Cool Tones in Your Home

January 11, 2019 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Colors can have a powerful influence on how a room feels and is perceived.  An entire atmosphere can be changed just by adding different color combinations and patterns.  All colors have ways in which they can influence the space.  While warm tones are great for creating a more welcoming and inviting environment, cool tones have their own time and place as well.  To help you decide whether you want to incorporate cool or warm-tones into your room, we put together some great ways to use cool tones and help recreate your room’s entire feel. Let’s take a look!

Cool Tones vs. Warm Tones

So, you may have heard of the terms “warm tones” and “cool tones,” but do you know what they mean and how they work in design?  Warm tones are colors that influence a space to make the atmosphere feel more vivacious and intimate.  These colors consist of vibrant reds, robust oranges, and golden yellows.  When added to a space, they can quickly make the room feel more welcoming and homey. Cool tones, on the other hand, are used when you are trying to create a more relaxed, tranquil oasis.  They can be strategically used to make a room feel more relaxed and calm.  Cool tones consist of colors like pacific blues, forest greens, beautiful teals, and royal purples.

Blues

Interestingly enough, every color in an atmosphere has a way it can psychologically affect us.  Blue is recognized for its authenticity and serenity. It can create a peaceful and calming atmosphere by reflecting the way the ocean can make people feel.  This color is most commonly associated with tranquility and can help reduce stress.

Greens

Adding greens into your cool toned room can help give the space a sense of balance.  It is recognized for its natural consideration towards growth and health.  While also being relaxing, green can be used to help revitalize the space and make your home feel more relaxed and calm yet refreshing and evoking a sense of security.

Purples

Adding purple is a great way to create more balance with your tones as well.  While created with the robust energy of red and the passive vibes of blue, purple establishes a sense of mystery to the environment.  It is commonly affiliated with spirituality and wisdom.  This compassionate color is dominant can influence your space in a very creative way.

Cool tones are great to help relax your atmosphere.  With the high stress and constant demands of today’s society, having a passive environment in your own home can never be a bad move.  Try incorporating neutrals tones and cool tones together in rooms to create a more calming, surreal oasis.

Do you have cool toned rooms in your own home?  If so, please let us know below how you use these tones to enhance your space in the comment section.

Preparing for a Paint Project

January 4, 2019 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

If you are gearing up to launch a paint project in your home, we are sure that you will want to get it right the first time.  To help you with your paint project, we have compiled a list of all the accessories that you will need for a flawless interior paint job. Let’s take a look!

1. Painter’s Tape

You will find that painter’s tape is a lifesaver. One of the most important things you can do when performing a paint job in your home is to adequately prep your home. In fact, when you pay attention to prepping your house, you will be much happier with the results. Painter’s tape helps keep your trim, ceiling, and other finishes paint-free during the process. Just imagine how tough it can be to remove paint from delicate surfaces and with painter’s tape, you do not have to worry about that.

2. Starter Kit

If this is your first DIY paint project, you should start strong by investing in a beginner’s painting kit. Such a kit will include essential tools like paint brushes, rollers, tray, tray liner, and gloves. Purchasing a kit is much easier than trying to buy all the items individually, especially if you do not really know all the things you will need for a successful painting project.

3.  Paint Edger

It can be hard getting to the edges and corners of the room. That is why you may need a paint edger.  You will find that a paint edger comes in handy when getting to the trickiest parts of a room.

4.  Drop Cloth

Of course, a drop cloth is essential, especially if you are painting a room with furniture in it. A drop cloth will protect your furnishing and floors from accidental drips. Also, a drop cloth makes the cleanup process much more manageable.  Plastic drop cloths are the most inexpensive option but canvas cloths are more efficient, and they are not slippery.

5. Paint Brush Cover

Will your paint project take more than one day? If so, paintbrush covers are definitely a necessity.  Instead of wasting time washing the paint off your brushes, you can store them for use the next day in a paint brush cover.

6. Paint Tray

Perhaps the most annoying thing about paint trays is that you have to repeatedly keep filling them. When shopping for a paint tray, purchase one that can hold up to a gallon of paint. This will help make the painting process go much faster.

ICC Home is your one-stop-shop for everything paint related. With a wide selection of Benjamin Moore products, we can help you create your dream oasis. For more information on our selection, please call or visit us. We look forward to working with you.

Where to Begin: Home Remodel

December 14, 2018 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Whether you have just moved into a new home or you are just looking to renovate your home, remodeling your space can take a significant amount of time and come with a price tag.  It is best to have a general sense of everything you want to accomplish in your home before you start; however, tackling every room and every desire at once may not be feasible.  You will need to decide what your remodeling priorities are and make sure you direct your initial efforts towards those areas at first.  We put together some simple guidelines to help you establish where to begin in your home remodel and how to access it along the way. Let’s take a look!

The Essentials

First things first, always start with the essentials.  Do you have a room in your home that the remodel or renovation is essential to your living environment?  Perhaps, a room has broken appliances, or you have a child on the way.  Always start your remodeling with rooms that need to be done and have a deadline. This is where you will need to start.

Most Facilitated

What rooms do you use the most?  It will not make sense to start with the guest room if you have never had guest over to your home.  Start your remodeling process with the rooms that you are always spending the most time.  It will be difficult with these rooms out of commission during the remodeling process, but they are a smart starting choice. Trust us, you would much rather spend a majority of your budget on frequently-used rooms rather than unused ones.

Important to Your Lifestyle

Next, look at the room that is most suitable for your lifestyle.  If you work from home, you may want to finish the office next.  If your lifestyle has you spending a lot of time in the kitchen meal prepping, this may be a suitable room to remodel.  Look at your home and locate the spaces which the remodel or renovation will help make your lifestyle easier.

The Want List

Lastly, you should make your “Want List.”  This is the room you can live without, but you really want in your home.  Maybe a home theatre, a man cave, a home gym, or a music studio.  If these choices fall into benefiting your career, move them out of the want list, but most of our want lists are solely extras. This will be one of the most satisfying ones to complete and remodel but should be saved for last like dessert.

Remodeling your home takes time and money.  Every project can be as big or as little as you want. Decide how large you want your projects to be before beginning.  To help maintain a budget and peace of mind, complete each task before beginning a new one.

Are you ready to begin your remodel? We would love to help you with all of your remodeling needs here at ICC Home, where we hope to be your one-stop-shop. Visit us or call us for more information. We look forward to working with you!
