How to Store Your Holiday Decorations

December 30, 2020 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Beautiful old glass Christmas baubles in assortment of colors and shapes in cardboard box, top view, selective focus

Yes, your tree is already up but was it a nightmare digging through your ornaments and lights? Did you make an instant New Year’s Eve resolution to not go through that again? Now that it’s almost time to put everything away again, here are some great ideas so that when you take your tree down you know how to store everything in an organized and efficient way.

Lights – The most important thing to know about storing lights is to be sure that they are untangled. The cheapest and easiest way to store lights is to wind them up around your arm and then transfer them to a clear plastic bag. Label the plastic bag with where the lights were used so you can easily put them back up in the same place next year. Another good storage idea is to wrap them around sturdy cardboard covered in left over wrapping paper. Cut slits on both ends of the cardboard to secure the plugs.

Ornaments – For ornaments that are mostly the same size, you can purchase a divided-tray ornament container. Line each space with large squares of felt to protect delicate ornaments. If you are really particular, keep similar colors together.

Storing ornaments in big boxes is another good option. Cover the bottom of each box with several layers of tissue paper, and wrap each ornament in newspaper or tissue paper so ornaments won’t touch each other when you put them in rows. When you finish a layer, place a piece of fitted cardboard on top and continue with another layer of tissue paper.

Garland – Do you have specially cut artificial garland to fit a stair railing, mantel, and sideboard? Hang a labeled tag from each section for easy identification or store them separately in clearly marked bags.

Miscellaneous Décor – Putting elaborate decorations away can be easy with the original packaging. Store items with small pieces, such as nativity sets or holiday villages, in the boxes they came in. This will both ensure that the box is the right size and keep you from having to make a label to remember what’s inside.

The Colors of 2021

December 18, 2020 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

The Pantone Institute has broken tradition. Instead of naming a single color of the year, it has named two colors of the year – Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow. Both colors connote a feeling of strength and hope, according to Pantone. There are good reasons why the Institute selected these two colors because they offer the promise of something happy and friendly according to Pantone. “We need to feel that everything is going to be better, it is something essential for the human soul. In a context in which people seek to strengthen themselves with energy, clarity, and hope to overcome a situation of sustained uncertainty, encouraging and full of life tones satisfy our search for vitality,” Pantone explained.

The Pantone color of the year historically trends in fashion and beauty and furniture, design and décor items. Pantone selects the year’s color based on an in-depth study of trends and market analysis of the entertainment industry, art, fashion, popular tourist destinations and all areas of design. This year, Pantone also considered the general mood of the world population.

How can Ultimate Gray and Illuminating yellow enhance the look and feel of a new dream kitchen, bath, or other room in your home? Give us a call or make an appointment to visit our showroom either in-person or virtually.

How to Get Eggnog Out of Your Carpet

December 18, 2020 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

This is the time of year when eggnog is especially popular.  Sometimes accidents happen and they tend to be more prone to happen during the holiday season!  Below are a few tips just in case you end up having to clean eggnog out of your carpet this season.

  • Use a non-flammable spot removal solution or dry cleaning solvent.  Do not directly pour solution onto the carpet.
  • Use a detergent solution by mixing ¼ teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent solution per one cup of lukewarm water.  Never use a stronger concentration.
  • Do not use a laundry detergent.
  • Rinse solution thoroughly to remove all residues.  You may have to rinse several times to achieve this.  Lukewarm tap water can be used for rinsing.
  • Using a vinegar solution by mixing one cup of white vinegar per two cups of water
  • Make sure to soak up all of the excess water when you’re finished cleaning

Always be sure to check with your manufacturer’s cleaning suggestions or consider calling a professional if you are unsure.  We hope you have a great holiday season, filled with a lot of celebrating and less cleaning!

Using the Four Seasons to Inspire Your Decorating: Winter

December 13, 2020 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

The Four Seasons of Decorating: Winter

Winter images range from hot chocolate and warm fires to that cold-wet feeling when you’ve had to dig your car out of its parking space again. Winter rooms need to bring warmth inside, along with a nice dose of coziness.

Carpet is the flooring for winter. Find a ‘”dig your toes in” kind that makes your feet happy when the boots come off. Or maybe you’ve fallen in love with an area rug. Whatever the type, the softness perfectly complements the harsh weather outside.

If you long for a dark accent wall, or even a dark-walled space, your winter room gives you that opportunity. Pull in a rich brown or wine red, or how about a dark sage green? Introduce ivories and creams to lighten the space through furniture and pillows. For windows, velvet curtains that go to the floor keep the warmth in and the chill out – visually and in terms of temperature.

Lighting is particularly important when the sun sets so early. Table lamps in the corners and candles for special occasions create a sense of invitation and comfort in your winter room. Accessories should include a couple of throws to wrap around your legs on chilly evenings.

Texture is an easy design element that can bring on the feelings of warmth and coziness. Using faux fur pillows, throws or area rugs can bring an instant feeling of warmth to a room.

When it’s cold outside, curl up in your winter room and enjoy the best of the season.

What Will Trend in 2021?

December 11, 2020 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

As an increasing number of homeowners in Indianapolis become more adept and comfortable working from home, the kitchen continues to grow in importance as the most significant, functional, and enjoyable room in the home. Today’s kitchens are multifunctional, serving as classrooms, offices, studies, and break rooms, as well as the main room in the home to gather, spend quality time, prepare meals, and dine.

With the continuous evolution of the kitchen’s role, here is what we expect to trend in the coming year:

Open Shelving

Design responding to the new roles that kitchens serve. 2021 kitchen designs will incorporate artwork, decorative pottery, cookbooks, collectibles and other items that reflect the owner’s personality and design preferences. That is one reason why we expect open shelving to continue growing in popularity because it allows homeowners to display ceramics, sculptures, plates, cookware, and other important items.

Dark Cabinets

Walnut cabinets are expected to come to the forefront in 2021 as well as darker-toned kitchens. Walnut is soothing, offers warmth and connotes luxury. Don’t be surprised if you see black walls, cabinets and countertops in design publications and social media sites. Black also connotes luxury, and in cabinetry, it can provide a rustic vibe.

Paint

The painted kitchen will make its mark in 2021. Painted walls and cabinets are easy to maintain and offer an unlimited palette of color and design options. And if you don’t like or tire of the look, repainting is easy and cost-effective.

Marble

Marble is making a big comeback as a countertop and backsplash material. We are also seeing an increase in wood finishes, such as lighter-toned wood to complement the warmer tones of stone countertops.

Storage

Storage is becoming a necessity as working and schooling from home persists. Demand for pantries in kitchens will increase for several reasons. They serve as a central storage area for food stuffs, and that can free up wall space for open shelving, artwork, or be left bare.

Touch-to-Open Technology

Ease of use will trend in 2021. Everything from touch-open cabinets and drawers that eliminate the need for cabinet hardware to voice-activated faucets, and digital kitchen assistants that help homeowners plan meals, order groceries and inventory supplies, will make using a kitchen much easier and more enjoyable.

Sinks

Sinks are becoming design statements in addition to the functionality they provide. Sink workstations help improve the efficiency and space in a kitchen, providing additional countertop space and making it easier for homeowners to prepare meals.

Distinct Zones

Because of the need for private areas to work, attend school or simply relax, open floor plan spaces will be repurposed to provide distinct zones. Use of screens, interior windows, freestanding furniture, cabinets and plants will break up space to provide separate zones for cooking, entertaining and working.

Smart Appliances

Smart appliances, faucets, lighting, thermostats, locks and doorbells will continue to advance and gain popularity.

What trends in 2021 make the most sense for your new dream kitchen? Let’s have a conversation. Give us a call or make an appointment to visit our showroom ither in-person or virtually.
