How to Successfully Decorate with Neutrals

June 8, 2018 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Decorating with neutrals may seem easy, but we have six tricks that you may want to consider before you begin your next design project. Let us take a look!

How to Successfully Use Neutrals in Your Design:

No. One: Warm vs. Cool Tone.

Before you begin exploring all neutrals have to offer, it is important to understand that there are two different types of neutrals: cool tone and warm tone neutrals. The undertone of neutral colors will determine whether or not they are in fact a warm or cool tone. If the undertone consists of browns, reds, oranges, or yellows, the neutral is warm toned. If the undertone consists of blues, purples, or greens, the neutral is cool toned. Once you have decided on your undertone, it is imperative to decorate with that color scheme throughout the room. This will help make sure everything is consistent and flows properly. For example, if you go with a warm-toned neutral, you will want to pair the decor with warm tones color like red or brown. This will create the seamless look you desire.

No. Two: The Perfect Backdrop.

Neutrals are incredible backdrops because they do not take away from the room. When in doubt, select a wall color that is a neutral and you can rest assured that the rest of your room’s design will blend seamlessly in with the wall color.

No. Three: Layers.

It is important to layer different textures and patterns in neutral colors. If you only have neutral solids, your room may feel bland and uninteresting. Instead, layer textured pillows, blankets, and even rugs to create depth and appeal.

No. Four: Contrast.

You will want to add some contrast to your neutrals to make sure that you create a well-rounded room. Be sure to use both dark and light colors throughout your space for a timeless look.

No. Five: Light vs. Dark Paint.

Neutral walls can either be light or dark. There are benefits of choosing both values. Light walls can create a clean, sophisticated look, while dark walls can create a sultry, romantic, and cozy vibe. It really depends on which look you are going for when determining which value you want to choose.

No. Six: All Colors Have a Neutral-Side.

You may be thinking that neutral tones just include beige, gray, greige, white and black, but you would be wrong. In fact, every single color can have a neutral side to it. You can have neutral pinks as well as neutral blues. They are duller than the normal “pink” or “blue” color, but they work well throughout a neutral-toned room. Just be sure that you pair them with their other cool or warm toned colors to make sure that it all flows together.

How do you use neutrals throughout your space? We would love to hear your comments and feedback in the comment section below!

4 Ways to Dress Up a Bland Living Room

May 30, 2018 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

If you’re living room consists of nothing but a television and sofa then it’s time to consider dressing up the space. Believe it or not the living room is one of the most important areas of the home. It’s where you entertain your guests and a space we tend to retreat to after a long day. Therefore, you’ll want the living room to look it’s best. Here are four ways to add some style to a bland living room even on a small budget.

  1. Center the Furniture Around A Stylish Rug
Investing in a beautiful rug doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Whether you select a geometric or another type of patterned rug this can really pull the entire room together and the interior will look finished. For the maximum effect, arrange the major furniture pieces such as the couch and the coffee table around the rug.

Oversized or a standard sized rug? When shopping for the perfect rug you’ll need to keep in mind the dimensions of the room. Using a small rug in a big living room will look as if it’s floating in space and you won’t achieve the desired look. On the other hand, a big rug in a small room won’t work if you still want to show off your beautiful wood floors.

  1. Create A Gallery
A gallery of artwork doesn’t cost much to create. By arranging various scaled prints and paintings into groups you can create an upscale gallery vibe. By decking adjacent walls in your favorite pieces of art can bring out the simplest furniture pieces.

You can pick up inexpensive yet stylish frames from thrift shops or home good stores. You can frame your collection of postcards, family photos or artwork you’ve purchased online or from local sources.

  1. Have Fun with Different Textures
Use a variety of materials within your living room space to design the ultimate, sophisticated interior. From leather, wood, faux fur, woven cotton and velvet these different types of materials will dress up a neutral palette.

  2. Add a Bright Color
Incorporating a bright color in your interior is the easiest way to make your living room feel less bland. A bright colored sofa or rug will breathe life into the space. You can also use color in smaller ways like through a vase, lamp or even throw pillows.

Enjoy!

Clean Kitchen Looks: White on White

May 24, 2018 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

If your kitchen needs a much-needed facelift, consider going with the white on white look. Using various whites as your color palette will ensure a crisp, clean and refreshing atmosphere. It also gives your kitchen a stunning look without having to compare endless color combinations you may be unsure of. The key to bringing out the beauty of the room will be in the details: textures, lighting and additional accessories. Concentrate your focus on that and your kitchen is sure to become a real showstopper for yourself and guests to enjoy.

No matter what style you prefer in your home, white on white can be blended seamlessly into your home’s look. One of the first things that you will notice upon entering the room will be the cabinets, so choose a white that you enjoy to get started. This can be a stark white, ivory or even a pearl. Once you have chosen your base color, find a cabinet style that evokes the atmosphere you prefer. This can be a simple shaker cabinet, or glass display doors to show off your plates and glasses. Choosing the hardware will be the final touch, so feel free to go with a style that speaks to you. You can do crystal knobs or white knobs for a more subtle look or gold and silver to break up the all-white palette.

Just as important are your countertops. Marble definitely lends a luxurious look to the room, especially when paired with an attractive solid wood base displaying carved in details. Quartz and granite are also beautiful choices that will add value to your home in the event of a resale. The walls should also be considered when rounding out the look of the room. Try a deeper tint such as stone or linen to add dimension to the space while still working beautifully with your palette.

Lighting, natural and artificial, will also play a helpful role in giving your kitchen a fresh, clean look. Be sure to take advantage of any windows to allow for as much sunlight as possible to make its way into the space. For artificial sources, consider pendant lighting to assist in kitchen tasks while keeping the design streamlined.

Now that all the major pieces are in place, keep your countertop appliances and accessories to a minimum to really let your white kitchen palette be the star of the show!

To successfully pull off a royal inspired home you’ll have to stick to deep and rich hues.

Here are some colors you can use to achieve this theme.

Purple

Purple is a hue that represents royalty. You probably never thought you’d be using this color in your home decor but when done correctly it can be quite stylish. When decorating when purple you should avoid using just one shade of the color. Instead, implement variations if it throughout the room. Pair pale shaded with a rich plum to really set off the look. To further add drama to the room, use touches of metallic or chrome in your accessories.

Pure Emerald Green

Emerald green is a beautiful color that will bring out any design scheme. It’s a rich hue that has become increasingly trendy in the design world. Don’t be afraid to use emerald green on your walls and furniture for a bold statement. If you’re not ready to be so daring, you can incorporate accessories featuring the color. You can pair emerald green with gray to create an ambiance like no other.

Rose Gold

Rose Gold is a feminine color that instantly adds a sophisticated flair to a space. This is a metallic shade that combined the best of both worlds: pink and gold. Let this color serve as the foundation of your royal room. Use accessories and other complementary shades to take this look further.

Bloody Burgundy

Oxblood burgundy is a masculine hue that will give you that royal or kingly feel. This color is grounded enough to use on your walls but be sure to use a complementary color like gray as an accent. Such a rich and deep shade can easily overpower a small room so pair it with neutral colors. For drama, you can add golden hues and prints such as zebra or leopard.

  1. Think About Size First
When shopping for a sofa you should have in mind what size couch you’ll need. If you have a large living room, you should decide just how much of the living room the couch will be filling up. Will you also be decorating the space with other couches, end tables and a coffee table. If you want to include other furniture pieces a L-shaped sofa is ideal. However, if you desire the sofa to be the focal point of the room than opt for a sofa that is bold and takes up more space.

4 Things Every Small Home Needs

May 3, 2018 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Of course, when decorating a small home there are just some things you will have to eliminate for the sake of space. However, there are some essentials that you can’t compromise on. Take a look at these suggestions.

Comfortable and Sufficient Seating

While you may be tempted to opt for compact furniture in a small living space you shouldn’t skimp out on comfortable and adequate seating. Don’t be afraid to invest in a big and comfy sofa that will allow you to be able to enjoy your living room. Use small lounging chairs so that when you have visitors they’ll all have a place to sit.

Foyer

Dedicating some space to a foyer is worth it even if it isn’t grand. Everyone deserves a place where they can decompress for a moment when they enter their home after a long day. Set up a space near the entry where you can take your shoes, hang your coat and drop the car keys. A small glass table with a mirror hanging above it will open the space will providing a place to set things down when you enter the house. Add a plant or flowers for a nice welcoming touch.

Pattern and Color

Sure, neutrals hues like white and gray will make a space look open and breezy. Such a palette can also be boring. Color and pattern shouldn’t be eliminated from your decor. Instead, create drama within the space by embracing bold colors and busy patterns. You’ll find that your home looks more personable and inviting.

If you’re a bit hesitant you can get the best of both worlds by keeping the walls neutral and simply accenting with color. This allows the main sightlines to remain clean. You can also try using a fun color on the ceiling and keeping the furniture more neutral tone so that you create interest without overwhelming the space.

Place to Dine

While small homes usually don’t have a dedicated dining room you still need to make room for a place where you can sit down and eat a meal. You can try situating a small dining room table against the wall or a window to keep the floor space free. If that’s not possible consider investing in a convertible coffee table that expand to full height or a stylish foldable table.
