Designing a Living Room

December 12, 2017 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Living rooms can be one of the most frequently used rooms in a home. With all that we do in living rooms, should not they have a brilliant design? Designing and decorating can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you are starting with a blank canvas. But there is no need to worry, we have five tips to help you design your living room!

Tips for Designing a Living Room:

  1. All Eyes On. . .

It is important to establish the focal point in your living room. Whether it is a big picture window or your fireplace, you want to determine what will “take center stage.” Typically, the furniture will be arranged in a flattering way to accent the focal point. The way you set up your furniture should ultimately frame the most important feature in your living room.

  1. Layers.

When designing a room, most homeowners find it easier to work in layers. The layers of a room are: high, middle, and low. You ideally want to make all of your layers work together to help make it more pleasing to the eyes. Try and avoid repeating the same layer over and over in your design. You want to add different heights to make the room look more interesting.

  1. Inspired.

If you are trying to determine your color scheme, look no further than your favorite pattern. Take a pattern that you desperately want to use in the design and incorporate colors from it throughout the room.

  1. Always Neutral.

When in doubt, choose a neutral tone for your decor. Neutrals go well with everything and they stay current and trendy. If you cannot choose a sofa color, consider buying it in a neutral tone. Afterwards, you can dress up the couch with colors by adding colorful pillows and blankets.

  1. Create Warmth.

Typically, we can recommend adding warmth through a warm color scheme, but that is not the only way! You can add warmth by choosing plush materials and cozy furniture. If you still feel your room needs more warmth, you can opt for a warm-toned color palette. Browns, oranges, and tans can do just the trick!

Mudroom Floors

November 30, 2017 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Mudrooms are fantastic rooms in homes. They can help contain the unwanted transfer of outside dirt into the rest of your home. If used properly, your home could thrive; creating less work for you while cleaning. While designing your mudroom, you want to take a good look at the floors. The flooring that you choose will need to meet some important criteria: easy to clean, wipe down, and wash. For more detailed help in choosing the correct flooring, we created a mudroom floors guide for you! Let us take a look at the different things to consider when choosing your mudroom floors:

Mudroom Floors:

    • Rugs: Rugs are amazing decorative pieces that wrap style and function into one product. They come in an array of different sizes, textures, shapes, and colors while still providing us with a place to wipe our feet. An important thing to consider when choosing a mudroom rug is that most people will be wiping their feet on it. You will want to choose a sturdy, dark color rug for an area like this. Keep in mind: homeowners tend to replace their rugs often due to the amount of moisture and dirt build-up. You will want to choose an affordable rug that you are okay with replacing within the next year.
    • Durable, Low-Maintenance Floors: For your overall mudroom flooring, you will want to choose a product that is durable and low-maintenance. You will want to focus on a product that is easy-to-clean for this high traffic area. Flooring options like tile, stone or LVT can work wonders in these types of areas. For more expert knowledge, be sure to ask one of our sales staff for their product recommendations.
    • Water-Resistant: Depending on where you live, one day it could be raining and one day it could be snowing. To be ready for all mother nature has to throw at us, we recommend purchasing water-resistant flooring. There is only so much that your mudroom rug can soak up, plus you will need an area to place your shoes. Owning a shoe tray can definitely help reduce the transfer of moisture, but moisture-resistant flooring is your best option.
    • Cleaning: You want to choose a product that is easy to clean and wipe down when necessary. The flooring options we listed above (tile, stone or LVT) all have easy-to-clean properties.

Choosing the Right White

November 10, 2017 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Even though white wall treatments are a staple in American homes it can be challenging finding the right kind of white. Contrary to popular belief white isn’t white. There are many noticeable variations of this color. If you enjoy the simplicity that white offers, it’s important to know it’s many different shades. So here are some tips for picking the perfect shade of white for your space.

Cool Stark White

Cool white walls create a serene atmosphere. You can expect to see such a stark shade of white in contemporary style spaces because it adds to the feeling of newness that minimalist love. Often, when using this variation of white you can keep the theme of the room simple which means there will be very little distraction or contrast.

Creamy White

Creamy white almost gives off a heavenly feel. This variation is great for use in the bedroom since it promotes relaxation and peace. When using creamy white in your bedroom, try contrasting with layers of other types of white. For example,  imagine cool white curtains and ivory bedding. This will add more dimensions to the room.

Antique White

Antique white works in traditional spaces such as the living or dining room.  Unlike cool white, antique white makes the room feel like it’s being lived in while providing an air of sophistication.

Ivory

If you don’t want a room to feel too cold than you might want to use an ivory white. White paint with ivory undertones adds a hint of warmth to your space. This variation of white complements hardwood floors. To truly bring this look life to use halogen lighting.

 Gray White

Grayish white isn’t a variation that we see play out in homes often. The gray undertones don’t take away from the sophistication of the look. Instead, it serves as the perfect backdrop for more vivid hues. Colors such a purple, yellow and red work great as accent colors in a room with grayish white wall treatments.

Warm White

Warm white has khaki undertones. Such a hue makes a space for warm and welcoming especially when you tie in natural materials.

Colors for a House on the Market

November 6, 2017 by iccfloors Leave a Comment

Choosing the perfect paint color for your home can normally be a stressful process, but what about trying to market it to potential buyers? There is a fine line that you do not want to cross when making paint selections for your home. You may be into a bright pink accent wall, but your buyer may not be into that look. If you are looking to put your home up for sale, you will ideally want to choose a paint color that will appeal to various buyers. You may then ask “what colors will sell my house to a buyer?” We have created a list of four safe colors to paint your house.

Colors for A House on The Market:

  1. Gray. Gray is probably the safest color of all the choice that will provide. It comes in a variety of values and hues and works in almost any room in your house. Interior design experts say soft hues may help sell your home. Try using gray on your walls, cabinetry or even your baseboard trim.
  2. Warm Browns. Nothing says cozy like a neutral, warm color and browns will do just the trick. When selling to buyers, you want them to be able to picture themselves in your home. A warm brown wall with some lit candles can do just the trick. Try using warm browns in your living room area.
  3. Navy Blue. If you are looking to add a dark, bold color, navy blue will be the perfect addition. Home buyers love navy blue and it can be your statement piece in any room. Whether you are looking for a bold front door or a dark dining room, navy blue may just be your perfect color choice. If you decide to use navy blue in your dining room, make sure you make the surrounding rooms more soft and subtle. You do not want your space to become extremely dark from all of the harsh colors.
  4. Light Blue. From powder rooms to laundry rooms, light blue is the relaxing take on color that you may just need. Try using light, pale blues on your walls for a subtle pop of color.

We are happy to help with any of your paint-related questions!. Are they ready for your house showing? If not, we provide a wide selection of quality paint colors. Stop in today to view our showroom.
